Edward T. Begay, Former
Speaker of the Navajo Nation, has served the
Navajo Nation in various capacities for 34
years, first as Council Delegate for Churchrock
and Breadsprings community Chapters on the
reservation. As the Speaker of the Navajo
Nation Council, he led that body’s 88
members in formulating policy and debating,
and enacting legislation for the Navajo people
and lands. His overwhelming concern is to
develop jobs and to foster sound and structured
economic development on Navajo lands. Former
Speaker Begay would like someday to write
and publish a large compendium of Navajo traditions.
