Mr.
Eddie L. Tullis has served as Tribal Chairman of
the Poarch
Band of Creek Indians for 26 years. The
Poarch Band of Creek Indians is the only federally
recognized Indian Tribe in the State of Alabama.
In this capacity, he serves as the Chief Executive
Office of Tribal Administration and oversees all
grants and contracts funded through federal, state
and local governmental units. In his position as
Tribal Chairman, Mr. Tullis is the Chairman of the
Board for Creek Indian Enterprises, which is the
economic development branch of the Tribe. He also
serves in national leadership roles representing
the interest that impact the welfare of American
Indian people such as Vice-President of the United
South and Eastern Tribes since 1990, Vice-President
of Americans for Indian Opportunities since 1986
and an Advisory Council Member for the Trail of
Tears National Historic Trail since 1988. Mr. Tullis’
most recent national appointments include Area Vice
President for the National Congress of American
Indians and as a member of the Indian Advisory Council
for the Trust for Public Lands. He was recently
appointed to the Alabama State Incentive Grant Advisory
Committee and the Alabama Archives and History Foundation
Board. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors
for both the United Bank of Atmore and Leadership
Alabama.
Mr. Tullis also set an excellent example of Indian
leadership through past involvement of the following
national organizations: White House Conference on
Indian Education, Indian Nations at Risk, National
Indian Policy Center Planning Committee, Native
American Rights Fund, National Advisory Council
on Indian Education, and the American Indian and
Alaska Native Advisory Committee for the United
States Census.
Mr. Tullis was born in 1938 in Mobile, Alabama.
He graduated in 1956 from Earnest Ward High School
and in 1975 attended Faulkner State College in Bay
Minette, Alabama. Mr. Tullis is married with four
children.
