Peterson Zah, Navajo Nation, Chairman of the Tribal Council from 1983 – 1987 and President of the Navajo Nation 1990-1994, today is Advisor to Arizona State University on American Indian Affairs. He meets with students, presents guest lectures and represents the University in external relations with Indian communities, federal and state governments. He helps with recruitment and retention of Native students, and since his arrival retention rates have increased from 43% to 87%. Zah has been a mentor and inspiration to many who would become tribal leaders themselves. He was a key figure in the career development of Robert Yazzie.
